(excerpt from a letter to Butch Sims, current President Port Perry Mojacks)
On behalf of the Executives, Players and Staff of the Georgina Ice, we extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Walt's Family, and the Port Perry Mojacks club on the passing of Mojacks Former President Walt Sandison.
We were fortunate to see Walt at the play-offs this year and he sure was happy to be there cheering on the boys.
Sincerely

ANOTHER GREAT SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE
Last night our hopes of a berth in the COJHL Finals were dashed by the Port Perry MoJacks. The MoJacks have asked that we extended their sincerest apologies to THE ICE FANS for the condition of the parking lot last night and for the fact of the Heaters not working. Team President Butch Sims was addressing these issues with the Township of Scugogg this morning. They know that it looks bad on them even though both were out of their control.
To Quote Coach Mike Sedore in the dressing room after the game “ As hard as it is right now, each of you should be proud of the fact that you helped this Club to it’s 2nd Best finish in the last seven years, 2nd only to the Year that we won the COJHL Championship.
We had a very young squad this year who may have been a little slow coming out of the gate but who turned out to be the hottest team in the COJHL from New Years until the end of the regular season. This group became a cohesive Team both on and off the ice. Much of this must be credited to Captain Braedon Collins and his assistants Scott Sedore, Robert Evans and Ryan Anderson. We thank Brae and his assistants for leading by example on the ice and in the dressing room.
Unfortunately, Brae will not returning next year due to the Overage Rule. We thank him for his leadership and wish him well in all his future endeavours. He can leave knowing that his Team has been left in some very capable hands.
On behalf of the Executive, I want to thank all our Staff and Volunteers for their commitment and dedication to this Club.
Thank you to their families for sharing their time with us. Thank-you, to the Leisure Services and Arena Staff for your continued support.
The possibility of having a Junior Hockey Club in Georgina would not be possible if it wasn’t for the ongoing support of Our Sponsors. Thank-you, to our Corporate Sponsors, Chippewas of Georgina Island and Boston Pizza for being there when we needed you. To the Magna Cup, Georgina Men’s League, and the Buzzy Big Canoe Tourneys your contributions are vital to our ongoing success. To our many other Game and Event Sponsors, we thank you.
Last but not least, OUR FANS, we thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for coming out week after week and filling those seats and giving OUR BOYS someone to be proud of playing for.
Please continue to follow www.georginaice.com for updates on this years Award winners and for information on our Summer Camp and COJHL news.
See you at the Rink.

ICE FORCE GAME 7 (posted Mar 5, 2010)
The Georgina Ice will live another day thanks to a 3-2 overtime win against Port Perry at the Ice Palace Friday night.
After a scoreless first period the Mojacks drew first blood on a powerplay marker with fourteen minutes left in the second. Five minutes into the third and down by one with their season on the line Tyler Berryman unleashed a slapper that the Mojacks goalie couldn't handle and Luke Vanderkooy poked it in the empty cage for his first of the play-offs. Vanderkooy scored his second of the game four minutes later on the powerplay off a Scott Sedore rebound to put the Ice up by one. Port Perry scored on yet another powerplay with under five minutes remaining to draw even.
After surviving a late barrage of shots and some key saves by Jake Francis both teams headed into overtime.
Each team had some chances the seal the win in the early going but both goaltenders were spectacular on this night. Midway through the first overtime period the Ice made no mistake on a powerplay of their own as Brae Collins spotted Sedore whose point shot found its way through a maze of players into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the series and a huge overtime victory.
Ice Chips: The Ice have lost their third leading scorer Mark Asquith for the balance of the season when he suffered a broken ankle in game five. These playoffs have been a mirror image of games for both teams. Games one and two were blowouts, games three and four were both one goal victories and games five and six were overtime wins with the Ice holding a 25 to 24 goals for advantage in the series.
Each game has been won by the home team and the Ice will need to break that trend as game seven is slated for Sunday night in Port Perry at 7:00 pm.
ICE LOSE HEARTBREAKER in OT (posted Mar 3, 2010)
The Georgina Ice find themselves behind in their series against Port Perry three games to two after giving up two late period goals and one early in overtime. After a scoreless first period Georgina's Tayor McCloy tipped home a Brett Hembruff shot from the point only to have the Mojacks tie it up on a powerplay with 2:40 remaining in the middle frame. With just over eight minutes in the game, Scott Sedore jammed in one from a goal mouth scramble with Robert Evans and Zach Woloschuk drawing assists. Cameron McDavid's snap shot from the slot with five minutes remaining put the Ice up by two. Port would close the gap to one on a point shot that eluded Ice goaltender Jarrod Allen with two and a half minutes left in the third. The Mojacks would tie it up with the extra attacker with only 29 seconds to go in the third. It didn't take long for Port Perry to finish off the comeback as they scored on a breakaway a little under the two minute mark of overtime.
Game six resumes back at the Ice Palace on Friday night at 7:30.
ICE TIED AT TWO (posted Mar 2, 2010)
The Georgina Ice gave up 3 goals in the last six minutes of game four and a chance to go up in their series 3-1. Port Perry scored the only goal of the first on the powerplay. Luke Anderson tied the game at the eight minute mark of the second only to have the Mojack's score two minutes later. Zach Woloschuk and Anderson with his second scored minutes apart to give the Ice a 3-2 second period lead. Mark Asquith scored his first of two powerplay goals to go up 4-2, but the Mojacks closed the gap to one three minutes later. Asquith put the Ice up by two with over eleven minutes remaining in the game before the wheels fell off and Port put three past Ice goaltender Jake Francis for a 6-5 win and the series tied at two.
Game 5 is slated for Wednesday Mar. 2 in Port with game 6 at the Ice Palace on Friday Mar. 4.
Ice take Game 3 (posted Feb 26, 2010)
The Georgina Ice find themselves up 2-1 in the best of seven series against the Port Perry Mojacks thanks to a 4-3 win on Friday night.
Port drew first blood only 1:39 in, but Robert Evans scored from the slot five minutes later unassisted. Jake Radciffe spotted a streaking Mike Woods who made no mistake on the breakaway to put the Ice up by one. Midway through the second Scott Sedore made a nifty move on his fore hand to beat the Mojack goalie stick side with Ryan Anderson drawing the assist. Port Perry closed the gap to one with a minute and a half left in the middle frame. Port would tie up the game four minutes into the third only to have Robert Evans score his second of the game three minutes later from Mark Asquith and Zach Woloschuk. Ice goaltender Jake Francis would hold the fort the rest of the way including a late six on four powerplay with 1:25 remaining.
Ice assistant coach Justin Murray re-interated to his team that it was a must win game as the next two games are in Port Perry on Sunday and Wednesday. Game six if necessary will return to the Ice Palace on Friday night. The Ice will be without the services of Ryan Anderson for one game due to a suspension and David McGarry who remains on the injured list. Mike Woods left the game midway through the second with a lower body injury.
PLAYOFFS SQUARRED AT ONE (posted Feb 22, 2010)
The Ice and Port Perry find themselves deadlocked in their best of seven series at one game apiece.
On Friday the Mojacks scored five minutes in before Cameron McDavid knotted the score with a short handed goal. Taylor McCloy put the home side ahead to stay on a solo effort. Scott Sedore's wrister from the slot was the only scoring in the second for a 3-1 Ice lead after two periods of play. Sedore scored two goals to complete the hat trick in the first forty seconds of the third to go up 5-1. Tyler Berryman converted a Rob Evans feed to go up by five before Port made in 6-2 with over sixteen minutes remaining. It was all Georgina after that as Mark Asquith, Tyler Smilsky and McCloy with his second rounded out the scoring for a 9-2 final. Jake Francis picked up the win in the pipes.
On Sunday in Port Perry it was a complete reversal as Port scored on the first shift and went ahead by two six minutes later on the powerplay. The Mojacks would score another before the first period ended for a 3-0 lead. Four minutes into the middle frame Port would go up by four which lead to Jarrod Allen taking the place of Francis in the Ice net. A minute later the Mojacks would strike again and score another powerplay goal for a 6-0 two period lead. Port would notch another goal before Cameron McDavid would break the goose egg on a short handed tally.
Game three goes Friday night at the Ice palace before returning to Port on Sunday for game four.

Our FAN, Our FRIEND, Rick Cote (posted Feb 23, 2010)
Rick Cote has been a long time fixture of Junior Hockey in Georgina for almost 30 years. He has travelled from his homes in Woodbridge and Ajax to support our boys for all these years. On Sunday Feb. 20, prior to our game in Port Perry, Rick took ill and collapsed in the lobby of the Scugog arena. He was taken by Ambulance to Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry and was kept for observation.
He is now resting at his home and will begin a battery of tests today to hopefully find out the cause of his collapse. On behalf of Rick and THE ICE, I would like to thank the Staff and Fans of the Port Perry MoJacks for their assistance to Rick and for their calls of concern on his behalf. Rick has let us now that he isn't quite sure if he will be at the next game but wishes our boys success>>>"GO ICE GO!"
Wishing Rick a Speedy Recovery.

ICE WIN BACK TO BACK (posted Nov 14, 2010)
The Georgina Ice have closed the gap for second place to only two points thanks to a two game winning streak. Looking to make amends for their loss to Lakefield at home a week ago the Ice travelled to play the Chiefs on Tuesday. Mark Asquith and Taylor McCloy put the Ice up 2-1 after one and Ryan Anderson and Robert Evans staked the Ice to a 4-2 second period lead. Zach Woloschuk and Scott Sedore would trade goals with the Chiefs to make the final 6-4. Jake Francis picked up his sixth win of the season in the Ice net.
On Friday the Ice played host to the Port Perry Mojacks and played one of their most all around games limiting their mistakes in a 4-2 empty net win. Luke Vanderkooy drew first blood only 23 seconds in and Taylor McCloy scored five hole on a second period breakaway to put the home side up 2-0 after two frames. Port drew even midway through the third by scoring two goals in a span of a minute. Adam Waring would knotch the eventual winner when he found the mark with just under two minutes remaining. ICE SKID HITS THREE (posted Nov 14, 2010)
The Georgina Ice have now lost 3 games in a row thanks to losses on Friday to Lakefield and Saturday in Little Britain. On Friday the Chiefs rolled into town with a depleted roster and staked themselves to a three goal first period lead. The Ice would score one in the second and Tyler Berryman would score in the third but the Ice couldn't find the equalizer before time ended. Ali Barbieri suffered the loss in the Ice net.
The following night in Little Britain the Ice came out looking for redemption and scored three first period goals by Luke Anderson, Cody Mainprize and Oliver Boettcher. Ryan Anderson would make in 4-0 when his point shot found the mark but The Merchants would score one before the period ended. The Ice allowed Little Britain to tie the game at four with a couple of breakdowns in the neutral and defensive zones. Overtime solved nothing and Little Britain's first shooter was the only goal scorer against Jake Francis and that is all they needed as the Ice missed on all three attempts.
Ice Chips: The Ice still hold onto third place by two points over Little Britain. The injury bug has forced league scoring leader Scott Sedore out the last three games with a broken finger. Adam Waring has missed three games with an upper body injury, Mitch Mallany and Dylan Thompson sat out the weekend with injuries and Mike Woods missed Saturday night with a bruised ankle. Rookie defenseman Tyler Smilsky got the call to the Jr "A" loop with the Georgetown Raiders on Saturday night.

ICE BACK ON TRACK (posted Nov 7, 2010)
The Georgina Ice won their first game via the shootout this season against The Little Britain Merchants last night. After Mark Aquith couldn't connect off Scott Sedore's rebound shot, a trailing Zach Woloschuk found the mark to stake the Ice to a first period lead. Sedore would make it 2-0 on a breakaway when his low stick side shot found the back of the net with Asquith and Woloschuk drawing assists. The Merchants cut the lead in half with a power play marker in the last minute of the second. Little Britain would tie the match midway through the third to send the game into overtime which solved nothing.
Sedore and Woloschuk scored in the shoot-out and Jake Francis stopped 2 of 3 Merchant shooters to pick up the win in the Ice net and pick up the Boston Pizza Player of the game.

ICE PERFECT ON WEEKEND (posted Mon. Oct 18, 2010)
The Georgina Ice collected a much needed four points this weekend in a pair of games against Lakefield and Little Britain.
On Friday at home Adam Waring drew first blood but the Chiefs scored two before the period ended to take a 2-1 first period lead. The Ice then had one of their most productive periods by scoring five unanswered goals. Mike Woods scored his first two goals in the OHA followed by Jake Radcliffe's first goal as a member of the Ice. Robert Evans and Scott Sedore also found the mark. Lakefield did manage a goal with over two minutes remaining in the middle frame to make the score 6-3. Lakefield scored two by the midway mark of the third to close the gap to one and the Ice had to depend on their special teams and some timely saves by Ali Barbieri to preserve the one goal victory as they were assessed four penalties with only four minutes remaining.
The following evening Georgina travelled to Little Britain where Jakub Sykora scored short handed only to have the Merchants notch a powerplay goal to even the score after twenty minutes. Little Britain took the lead early in the second, but Zach Woloschuk evened the contest on a nice backhand deke after he was awarded a penalty shot. Scott Sedore put the Ice up by one after scoring twelve seconds into the third only to see the Merchants go ahead after scoring two goals two minutes later. Oliver Boettcher tied up the game thirty seconds later and it remained that way after three periods. In overtime the Ice scored another short handed goal after Robert Evans poked home a Scott Sedore rebound. Jake Francis picked up the win in the Ice net.

Scott Wollin, and Ice Captain Braedon Collins.
THE ICE VOWS TO UP GAME (Thu. Sept 16, 2010 Daniel Perry ERA Banner)
Georgina's Junior C hockey team is hungry for redemption.
The team is looking to score more goals when the 2010-2011 COJHL season kicks off next Friday at the Ice Palace against the Port Perry Mojacks. The team will hit the road to face off against Lakefield Sept. 26 and Uxbridge Oct. 1.
Things are looking promissing for the Georgina boys, so far. The ICE remained undefeated through their three preliminary round games at an Alliston tournament earlier this month, outscoring their opponents 15-5. The Georgina boys also won both exhibition games they played so far this year.
Players and coaching staff agree the team's success hasn't come without a lot of sacrifice and hard work, which they strive to continue if everyone sticks to the game plan. "This year's team is very diffferent", said 20-year-old Mount Albert resident Jamie Murrell (No. 22), a right winger who returned to the ICE for his second consecutive season. "We have a very young team this year and it's working. The young guys seem to be pushing the veterans to pick it up a notch. The coaches have been pushing us a lot in practice and it's paying off, big time. The guys have also been doing a lot of off-ice conditioning to go along with our on-ice workouts. Everyone seems to be buying into the systems and we are all coming together."
Murrell's teammate, 18-year-old Brandon Trimble (No. 27), is also excited about his second year with the ICE. "We were the first team to get knocked out of the playoffs last season, but I guarantee that won't happen again," said the Keswick resident. "Our team is working together so much better this year. We have some new coaches who are teaching us new plays and systems and they're working great so far. Guys are committing themselves to playing a higher tempo game. Everyone on the ice seems to have a much stronger work ethic."
Even the coaching staff is happy with the way things are shaping up for the team. "The coaches are all very optimistic for our chances during the season," said head coach Mike Sedore. "The players have all been skating very well, so far. They know there are a lot of talented guys on our team, so each time they hit the ice, they're fighting for a job. There are still a few cuts to be made and players know it," Mr. Sedore said, adding there won't be any room for laziness this season. The league will become extremely competitive as soon as the first puck drops, said the coach, adding three of the four teams to reach the semifinals in AIIiston were teams the ICE will be playing against all season.
There is one major adjustment some younger players need to make, according to the coach. "Some guys just aren't used to playing junior hockey yet," the coach said. "The periods are 20 minutes long, so they need to learn how to pace themselves. The warm ups are more intense and players need to really use their time on the ice before the game to prepare and the guys need to commit 100 per cent to the systems we're teaching them in order for us to be successful during the year."

ICE
SPLIT LANDS THEM IN
FOURTH posted Feb 7, 2010
Going
into the last weekend of the regular season the Georgina Ice could have
landed in second, third or fourth in the division, but a costly lost to
the Little Britain on Saturday allowed the Merchants to leap frog them
into third.
Knowing
it was a must win at home on Friday against Lakefield the Ice put up
three unanswered goals in the first by Luke Vanderkooy, Zach Luinenburg
and Scott Sedore. The Chiefs did put one by Ali Barbieri before the
period ended to make the score 3-1 after one.
Oliver
Boettcher found glove side to take back the three goal bulge before
Lakefield found the mark. George Slinko scored a pair sandwiched
between another Lakefield tally to give the Ice a 6-3 second period
lead.
In the third Lakefield did manage another goal with four minutes to make the final 6-4.
On
Saturday in Little Britain the Merchants drew first blood midway
through the first, but a Robert Evan’s deflection from Cody Mainprize
just 35 seconds later tied it up. The Merchants would grab the lead
once more before Brendan Berryman scored short handed on a nice
breakaway move to draw even at two after the first period.
Little Britain would score on a powerplay with just five minutes left in the middle frame to go up by one.
Despite firing 12 shots Little Britain’s way in the third, the Ice could not find the equalizer and went down by a 3-2 score.
The
loss dropped the Ice into fourth and now play host to the Lakefield
Chiefs in the first play-off round slated to start on Tuesday in
Lakefield at 7:30.
Ice Chips:
George Slinko was named Boston Pizza player of the game with his four
point effort on Friday. Scott Sedore’s 56 points were tops for the Ice
and good for third in league scoring. Slinko and Evans were tied for
second on the team with 42 points each.

balance of the best of five playoff schedule sees the Ice hosting the
Chiefs on Friday at 7:30 at the Ice Palace and Sunday night at 8:30 in
Sutton. The if necessary games will be Tuesday Feb. 16 in Lakefield and
the following night at 8:30 at the Ice Palace.

UXBRIDGE STEAL TWO FROM ICE posted Jan 24, 2010
The Ice managed to grab one of four possible points in back to back games against the first place Uxbridge Bruins.
On
Saturday the Ice got off to a great start by scoring three goals in the
first six minutes of the game. Scott Sedore set up Mark Asquith
from behind the net for a tap in and thirty seconds later Zach

up Asquith on a cross ice feed and made no mistake with the one
timer.
Uxbridge

bring the ice within one going into the third. Bray Collins’ point
blast evened the score with 3:50 remaining to tie the game at

shooters and the Ice couldn’t convert any of their
attempts. Boston Pizza player on the game went to Ice rookie Ryan
Anderson who played one of his finest games of the year.

Ice goaltender Jake Francis closed the door the remainder of the game for the 4-3 victory while stopping 46 shots on the night.
The
Ice finish off their two game road swing tonight when they face the
first place Uxbridge Bruins. Next home game is next Wednesday against
Lakefield at the Ice Palace.
ICE WIN SECOND GAME IN A ROW posted Dec. 21, 2009
The Georgina Ice knocked off the Port Perry Mojacks to win their second in as many outings with a convincing 5-1 victory.
Brock
Levick with his 8th of the year got things started with the assist
going to Anthony Incognito. The Mojacks scored short handed before the
period ended to even the score after one.
The
Ice converted a powerplay tally when Brae Collins found Cody Mainprize
at the point and his blast was deflected by Robert Evans. At the
midway mark of the frame Robert Evans found Luke Vanderkooy with a drop
pass and made no mistake putting the Ice up by two heading into the
third.
In the
final period Anthony Incognito picked up his first of the year when his
point shot eluded the Mojack tender. Scott Sedore sealed the deal
with an empty netter to give the home side the 5-1 win. Ice
goaltender Ali Barbieri stopped 28 of 29 shots fired his way for his
sixth win of the season.
Ice
Chips: Last year's league rookie of the year and 29 goal scorer,
Mike Snowie has rejoined the club. He picked up an assist in his
first game and will be a welcomed addition up front. Boston Pizza
player of the game went to defenceman Anthony Incognito who had his
first goal and picked up two assists as well as making a number of big
hits.
The Ice
are on the road Tuesday in Lakefield and Wednesday in Uxbridge before
breaking for Christmas for a week when they return home to play host to
the Lakefield Chiefs on Wednesday the 30th.
ICE WIN IN ALL AROUND GAME posted Dec. 13, 2009
The
Georgina Ice played probably their most all around game of the season
in defeating Little Britain by a 5-2 count in Little Britain on
Saturday.
Brendan
Berryman started the ball rolling with blast from the top of the circle
to put the Ice up early in the first. Georgina made it 2-0 before the
game was five minutes old when Brock Levick tapped in Scott Sedore's
point shot on the power-play. T
he
Merchants closed the gap in half in the middle frame on a power-play of
their own but the Ice's Scott Sedore regained the two goal lead on a
feed from Brendan Berryman. Little Britain wouldn't be denied on
another power-play with three minutes left in the second, but a minute
and a half later Luke Vanderkooy deflected Sedore's high slot shot to
give the Ice a two goal bulge going into the third.
Just
past the midway mark of the final period Jordan Shalla going hard to
the net put the Ice up by three on a nice pass from Zach Luinenburg.
The Ice were content to hold onto their lead with some good discipline
and fine defencive zone play which resulted in a Merchants
scoreless period. Jake Francis picked up the win in the Ice
net and was especially good in the first saving all 14 shots fired his
way. Georgina held a slight edge in shots overall by 32-31.
Ice
Chips: George Slinko, Ryan Anderson and Jake Ratcliffe have been
added to the MASH unit that is already occupied by Gouviea, Collins and
Mallany. On a brighter note Brandon Trimble returned to the
line-up and was a welcomed addition. The ice remain in fourth spot and
take on the third place Port Perry Mojacks this Friday which will be
Georgina's last home game before Christmas.
ICE DROP WEEKEND PAIR posted Dec. 09, 2009
The
Georgina Ice dropped another weekend series this past week to the
Little Britain Merchants at home on Friday and to Port Perry on the
road on Sunday.
At
the Ice Palace Robert Evans got the home side off on the right
foot with a powerplay marker midway through the first with Brendan
Berryman and Brock Levick assisting. The Merchants drew even in the
second and scored two more in third in a span of 12 seconds with a
little under eight minutes remaining.
Berryman
added a late powerplay tally with a minute remaining but the Ice
couldn't find the equalizer and lost by a 3-2 count.Ali Barbieri
stopped 33 of 36 shots in the Ice net earning him Boston Pizza player
of the game honours.
On Sunday the Ice travelled to Port Perry and suffered one of their worst defeats in recent memory by a 10-3 score.
The
score wasn't really indicative of the game as the Ice trailed 4-3 with
17 minutes left in the game, but an early period collapse led to six
unanswered Mojack goals. Scoring for the Ice were George Slinko who
finished off a Brendan Berryman wrap around in the first and Slinko
again in the second after tipping home Cody Mainprize's point shot and
Robert Evans notching one in the third.
The
Ice have a rare Friday off and travel to Little Britain on Saturday
before playing home to the Mojacks on Friday December the 18th
ICE HALT BRUINS WIN STREAK posted Dec. 01, 2009
The Georgina Ice have done what no other team has done in 12 games and that is beat the first place Uxbridge Bruins.
The
Ice drew first blood in the first when Oliver Boettcher capped off a
nice three way passing play from George Slinko and Mark Asquith.
The
score remained 1-0 until four minutes left in the game when Jamie
Murrell dug the puck out from the corner and fed Asquith in the slot
who made no mistake in putting the Ice up by two. Georgina got some
exceptional goaltending from Ali Barbieri whose shut out bid was
spoiled with only 44 seconds left in the game as the Ice won by a count
of 2-1.
On Friday in Uxbridge it was a different story as both teams combined for a total of 14 goals with the Bruins winning 8-6.
The
Ice held a 4-3 lead after one with singles from Slinko, Asquith, Scott
Sedore and Brendan Berryman. It was all Uxbridge in the second as they
scored 3 unanswered goals to take a 6-4 lead into the third.
Both
teams scored two each in the final period with Slinko and Berryman
getting their second of the contest. Jake Francis suffered the loss in
the Ice net.
Ice
Chips: Boston Pizza player of the game for Sunday's afternoon game was
goaltender Ali Barbieri. Mike Best and Mike Gustaw are no longer with
the club and we wish them luck on their future endeavours. Scott
Sedore's five point game on Friday has put him in the lead for team
scoring and third in the league. The Ice now find themselves in fourth
place thanks to their 2-7-1 record in the last 10 games.
Next home game is this Friday when the Little Britain Merchants come to the Ice Palace for a 7:30 pm contest.
ICE SKID CONTINUES posted Nov 25, 2009
The
Georgina Ice have now lost three in a row with the latest defeat coming
from the hands of the Lakefield Chiefs on Tuesday night.
The
Ice opened the scoring five minutes in when Jordan Shalla found low
stick side from a Scott Sedore feed. Lakefield then proceeded to
score four unanswered goals by the midway point of the game. Brendan
Berryman cut the lead in half with a blast from the point, but the
Chiefs notched a powerplay marker with just over a minute remaining in
the middle period.
In
the final frame George Slinko scored his fifteenth of the season to
bring the ice within two, but an empty net goal by the Chiefs negated
any comeback for Georgina. Ice goaltender Ali Barbieri turned
aside 37 shots in the losing cause.
Ice
Chips: Georgina now find themselves in fourth place with an 8-8-2
record, two points behind Little Britain and one back of Port
Perry. Scott Sedore’s three point game has him tied with Slinko
for the team scoring lead at 25 and fifth place overall. The Ice
schedule doesn’t get any easier as they face the league leading
Uxbridge Bruins in a home and home series beginning in Uxbridge on
Friday and finishing up in Sutton on Sunday at 4:00 pm.
ICE DROP CLOSE ONE posted Nov 21, 2009
The
Georgina Ice now find themselves tied for third with Little Britain
after losing to Port Perry on Friday and now one point behind the
Mojacks.
The Ice
jumped out to a two goal first period lead on goals by Zach Luinenburg
and Robert Evans. The teams traded second period markers with the Ice
tally coming off the stick of Mark Asquith from a cross ice feed by
Luke Vanderkooy.
In
the final frame the Mojacks cut the lead to one on a powerplay goal
with 13:17 left. The Ice seemed to have the game in hand until the
three minute mark when the ref thought that he would control the
outcome of the game by accessing Robert Evans a five minute major for
hitting from behind. Not only was the hit not from behind, it
wasn’t even Evans who made the hit. The Mojacks made full use of
the major penalty and scored two goals in a span of thirty seconds with
1:08 remaining to hand the Ice their seventh loss of the
season. Port held a slight shot advantage by 44-42.
Ice
Chips: Boston Pizza Player of the Game went to goaltender Jake
Francis who stopped 40 shots fired his way. The team has announced
the signing of Oliver Boetcher from the Newmarket
Hurricanes. Boetcher should add some speed and toughness up
front. Brandon Gouviea is coming off successful surgery and hoping
to get back into game action in the next month and a half. Brae
Collins is looking at another two weeks before his return and Branden
Trimble could be back this week. In other Central Jr.C action
over the weekend Uxbridge beat both Lakefield and Little Britain to add
to their lead atop the leader board.
The
Ice are on the road for two games facing Lakefield and Uxbridge before
returning home for a rare Sunday afternoon affair in Sutton at 4:00 p.m
against the first place Uxbridge Bruins.
ICE SALVAGE ONE POINT OVER WEEKEND
The
Georgina Ice could only grab one out of a possible four points this
weekend after suffering a home loss to Lakefield Friday night and
dropping a 6-5 overtime game to Little Britain the next evening.
At
the Ice Palace Scott Sedore opened the scoring fourteen seconds in off
a Mark Asquith rebound only to see that lead evaporate by the 12:11
mark. The Ice were able to grab a 3-2 period lead by periods end
when Luke Vanderkooy pounced on Zach Luinenburg’s rebound and Cody
Mainprize sprung home Robert Evans whose shot was stopped but George
Slinko was there to pick up the garbage.
Midway
through the second frame the Ice scored a powerplay marker when Scott
Sedore rang Asquith’s point shot off the post and Luinenburg put it in
the yawning cage. With only thirty six ticks on the clock the Chiefs
scored a backbreaking shorthanded tally to draw them within one going
into the third.
Just
over five minutes into the third Adam Chilvers picked up his second of
the season on a harmless looking wrist shot to put the home side up by
2. At the 13:20 mark the Ice meltdown began as Lakefield scored
four unanswered goals including an empty netter for a 7-5 win. Jake
Francis suffered the loss in the Ice net. Shots on goal favoured the
Ice by 39-34
The
next night in Little Britain the Ice drew first blood on the powerplay
when Brock Levick made a nice drop pass to Sedore whose point shot was
tipped home by Robert Evans. The Merchants would tie the game four
minutes later on a powerplay of their own before Scott Sedore
intercepted an errant Little Britain pass up the middle for a breakaway
and making no mistake going low stick side. Little Britain would tie it
up with just over a minute remaining in the period. The middle stanza
saw the teams trade goals with the Ice marker coming from Brendan
Berryman’s wraparound.
The
Ice grabbed a quick goal just ten seconds into the third to go up 4-3
with Robert Evans banging home Slinko’s initial shot. Little Britain
would tie it up three minutes later and Sedore with his second of the
contest would put the Ice up once again. Midway through the third
the Merchants would score two goals in a span of fourteen seconds to
take their first lead of the game. At the 2:21 mark Berryman would
notch his second of the game on a blast from the half boards to send to
the match into overtime only to have Little Britain score with 1:21
left in the extra frame.
Ice
tender Ali Barbieri stopped 34 of 40 shots fired his way in the losing
cause. Georgina also sent 40 shots Little Britains way.
Ice Chips: Georgina is now tied for second with Little Britain, four points behind Uxbridge.
Boston
Pizza player of the game on Friday went to Adam Chilvers for his fine
defensive work and picking up a goal in the process. Slinko and
Evans lead the team with points at 22 with Sedore trailing at
21. Ice forward Branden Trimble could be back in the line-up as
early as next week and Branden Gouviea could be on the shelf for awhile
with an injury suffered in Port Perry last Sunday in an off ice
incident.
Next home game is this Friday when the Ice take on the Port Perry Mojacks at 7:30 at the Ice Palace.
ICE END WINLESS STREAK IN DRAMATIC FASHION
The
Georgina Ice has ended their three game winless streak by defeating the
Port Perry Mojacks in a come from behind shoot out victory.
The Ice spotted Port a 2-0 lead before George Slinko cut the lead in half from an Anthony Incognito feed.
The
Mojacks made it 3-1 until the midway mark of the second when Brendan
Berryman converted Scott Sedore’s drop pass on the powerplay. Jordan
Shalla notched his first of the season to tie the game at three with
Sedore and Adam Chilvers drawing assists.
Port
scored a powerplay goal and even strength marker to take a 5-3 lead
with eight minutes remaining. At the 2:23 mark Slinko re-directed Cody
Mainprize’s point shot to close the gap within one. With goaltender Ali
Barbieri pulled in favour of the extra attacker, Robert Evans banged
home Mark Asquith’s rebound to knot the game at five with just 53 ticks
on the clock.
The
five-minute overtime solved nothing so it was on to the shootout. Brock
Levick scored on his first shot and Port’s second shooter scored to tie
the shootout at one after three shots each. In the sudden death round
Ali Barbieri stoned the Mojack shooter and Scott Sedore found low side
blocker to complete the come back and much needed two points.
Ice
Chips: With the win the Ice find themselves alone in second place
behind Uxbridge. Brae Collins, Scott Sedore and Luke Vanderkooy got the
call to the Newmarket Hurricanes on Thursday evening in the Canes 5-1
win over Orangeville. Both Sedore and Vanderkooy found the score sheet
with a goal apiece. They both made the trip to Parry Sound on Saturday
to aid in the Canes 5-1 win over the Seguin Bruins. Collins will be on
the shelf for a few weeks with a hand injury suffered in Friday nights
loss to Little Britain.
Next home game is this Friday when the Ice take on the Lakefield Chiefs at 7:30.
ICE WINLESS STREAK AT THREE posted Nov 6, 2009
The
Georgina Ice dropped their third game in a row against the Little
Britain Merchants Friday night and as a result sit in a tie for
second with Port Perry.
The
Ice got on the board first when Scott Sedore tapped in Mark Asquith's
cross crease pass, but that was it for the offence as Little
Britain scored four unanswered goals in the first and added
another in the second for a convincing 5-1 win. Shots were 35
- 28 in Little Britain's favour. Boston Pizza's player of the game went
to goaltender Ali Barbieri who was perfect on 19 saves on 19 shots
in relief of Jake Francis.
In
other action Uxbridge jumped into first place with a 4-3 win over Port
Perry. Uxbridge now have 16 points and Georgina and Port each have 15
with these two teams hooking up on Sunday in Port Perry.
ICE DROP WEEKEND SERIES posted Nov 1, 2009
This past weekend the Georgina Ice were the victims of back to back losses thanks to the Uxbridge Bruins.
In
Uxbridge on Friday night the Ice came up with probably their worst
effort of the season and found themselves down a goal before the game
was a minute old and the Bruins scored a powerplay goal seven minutes
later to go up 2-0. The Ice did close the gap when Zach Luinenberg won
the draw to Cody Mainprize and Jamie Murrell tipped home his point
blast.
The Bruins
lead was extended by two before Robert Evans scored short handed but
Uxbridge notched another powerplay marker before the second period drew
to a close.
In the
third Uxbridge scored early and George Slinko put home a Scott Sedore
rebound with five minutes left in the game and that was all as the
score ended up 5-3. Ice goaltender Jake Francis was solid again facing
41 shots in all and the Ice could only muster up 24 including a dismal
6 in the second period.
In
Keswick the next night the Ice rebounded nicely but the outcome was the
same in losing 5-4 despite out shooting the Bruins 44 - 25. Uxbridge
scored three goals in the first, one goal on the powerplay and two at
even strength when the Ice defence allowed Uxbridge two or three whacks
after the original shot was stopped by Ice goaltender Ali Barbieri.
In
the second period Scott Sedore got the Ice on the board from a nice
feed from Jamie Murrell only to have the Bruins score another to regain
their three goal lead. In the third the Ice made a game of it when Mark
Asquith tapped in a Scott Sedore pass and fifty seconds later Robert
Evans scored from a goal mouth scramble to close the gap to
one. At the 4:39 mark of the game Ali Barbieri's clearing attempt
was intercepted by Uxbridge's Kyle Northover who made no mistake in
putting it into the empty net. Mark Aquith scored his second of
the game with fifty one seconds left, but it was too little too late
for the Ice.
Georgina held to Bruins to only 5 shots in the third while pumping 16 at the Uxbridge net.
Ice
Chips: The Ice are barely holding onto first with a one point lead over
Uxbridge who have two games in hand. One of Georgina's corporate
sponsors Boston Pizza have announced a player of the game award at all
home games. Saturday's award winner was Scott Sedore who had a goal and
a couple of helpers. Robert Evans has taken over the team scoring lead
but remains ten points behind league leader Andrew Rynhold of Port
Perry. Mark Asquith has finally returned to the Ice line-up and was a
welcomed addition with two goals in his first game this year.
Georgina's next home game is this Friday night when they take on the Little Britain Merchants at 7:30 pm at the Ice Palace.
ICE 4 LAKEFIELD 3 (Game Tue. Oct 27) posted Oct 28, 2009
The Georgina Ice travelled to Lakefield on Tuesday night looking to keep their hold on first place.
Scott Sedore opened the scoring just two minutes in when his shot
bounced off a Chief defender into the yawning cage. The Ice extended
their lead to a pair on the powerplay when Sedore's point shot was
stopped and Mitch Mallany scooped up the rebound and spotted a wide
open Brock Levick who made no mistake on the one timer. Lakefield
notched a powerplay of their own with just eleven seconds left in the
period to close the gap to one.
Lakefield
drew even 33 seconds into the middle frame, but Mitch Mallany jammed
home a Brendan Berryman rebound and Zach Luinenberg tipped in Ryan
Anderson's shot to give the Ice a 4-2 lead after two.
The
Chiefs got back within one on a short handed effort with sixteen
minutes left in the game but that is as close as they would get as
goaltender Ali Barbieri shut the door the rest of the way to preserve
the 4-3 victory. Barbieri stopped 37 of the 40 Lakefield shots
fired his way to improve his record to 3 and 2.
The
Ice are still holding on to a slim two point lead for first over Port
Perry thanks to the Mojacks victory over Little Britain on Sunday. The
Ice travel to Uxbridge on Friday and then play host to the same Bruins
on Halloween night at the Ice Palace. Game time is 8:30 pm.
SLINKO KEEPS ICE on TOP posted Oct 25, 2009
George
Slinko lead the way with a three goal game including the overtime
winner to give the Ice a 6-5 win over the second place Port Perry
Mojacks.
In
the first period both teams traded powerplay goals twice to make the
score 2-2. The Ice goals were scored by Brandon Trimble's point
blast and Zach Luinenburg's shot off his wrong wing that found the far
side of the net.
In
the middle frame Brandon Gouveia sprung Slinko on a breakaway who made
no mistake and Luke Vanderkooy's nifty deke 28 seconds later from
Cody Mainprize put Georgina up by two. Port Perry fought back
with two of their own the even the score at four heading into the
final period.
Six
minutes into the third Slinko scored on his off wing but three
minutes later the Mojacks tied it up yet again. The final eleven
minutes solved nothing and it was on to overtime. Just 18 seconds
in Luinenburg was the recepient of a Mojack turnover who spotted Slinko
splitting the defence who capped off the hat trick to give the locals
the victory. Ice goaltender Jake Francis was stellar again stopping 38
of 43 shot fired his way with a few saves of the spectacular variety.
Ice
Chips: Francis has three wins in his first three starts and George
Slinko is second in lead scoring behind Port Perry's Andrew
Rynhold. Slinko has potted 10 goals in 9 games and Robert Evans is
leading the team in assists with 9 in 9 games. Georgina's win
over Port extends their lead to two points for top spot. The Ice
travel to Lakefield on Tuesday and Uxbridge on Friday before landing at
home Saturday to complete the home and home series with the
Bruins.
The Halloween game takes place at the Ice Palace at 8:30 so get your trick or treating done early and catch the game.
ICE HOLD ONTO TOP SPOT posted Oct 13, 2009
The Georgina Ice could only salvage one out of four possible points as they dropped both games this weekend.
On
Friday the Lakefield Chiefs came to town and snuck away with an 8-7
overtime win. Lakefield jumped out the an early 2-0 lead in the first
four minutes, but Georgina got back into the game when Andrew Sedore
spotted Robert Evans in the slot who made no mistake and just 19
seconds later George Slinko put away a Brock Levick rebound to tie the
game at 2 after one period.
Midway
through the second Slinko tapped in Levick's cross ice pass to put the
locals up by one only to have the Chief's tie up the game with five
minutes remaining in the middle frame. Georgina scored two more goals
forty seconds apart before the period ended to go up 5-3. The first
goal by Brendan Berryman when he stuffed home a Scott Sedore rebound
and Berryman again on a one timer from Brandon Trimble. Lakefield
scored what turned out to be a back breaker with just thirty seconds
left to close the gap to one.
The
Chiefs scored two to go up by one before the third was five minutes old
only to have Mitch Mallany tie the game at six. Lakefield went up
again with 5:12 remaining and that was all for Ice goaltender's Mike
Gustaw's night as he was replaced by Jake Francis. At the 3:25
Mark Mallany found the mark to knot the game at seven to send the game
into overtime. Last year's leading scorer Sean Griffen proved the hero
this night as he potted the Chiefs overtime goal with fifty three ticks
on the clock. Despite the loss the Ice out shot Lakefield 48-35.
On
Saturday the Ice travelled to Little Britain to take on the Merchants.
Brock Levick connected on a powerplay early in the first from Evans and
Slinko, but it wasn't enough as Little Britain took a 2-1 lead into the
intermission.
The
second period saw no scoring but three minutes into the third Robert
Evans won the draw to Brae Collins whose shot was stopped but Levick
popped in the rebound to even the score at 2. It was all Merchants
after that as they scored two more goals to give the Ice a 4-2 loss.
Georgina
goaltender Ali Barbieri was exceptional on this night as he stopped 37
of 41 shots fired his way. Ice Chips: Robert Evans and George Slinko
are tied in the league scoring with 13 points in 8 games. The Ice are
still holding on to first place, but the lead as dwindled to 3 points
over Little Britain thanks to the Merchants win over Uxbridge on Friday
night. Guest goal judge Rick Cote was the guest anthem singer on
Friday. Who would have thought.
Next home game is this Friday at 7:30 when the Ice take on the Port Perry Mojacks.
ICE IN TOP SPOT posted Oct 13, 2009
The
Ice find themselves sitting in top spot in the Central Ontario Jr.”C”
loop with a 5 and 1 record after six game thanks in part to a
four-point weekend.
On
Friday the Little Britain Merchants rolled into town and took a 1-0
lead after only six seconds from the drop of the puck. Ice captain
Brendan Berryman tied things up before the period ended on a
short-handed effort.
Less
than three minutes into the second frame, Little Britain scored a
short-handed goal of their own to take the lead. Brandon Gouveia put
the locals up by one after scoring two powerplay goals a minute and a
half apart. Scott Sedore added to the lead with another powerplay
marker midway through the period. The teams traded goals in the final
two minutes with Braedon Collins’ point shot finding the mark to give
Georgina a 5-3 lead.
It
was all Ice in the third as Little Britain could only muster up four
shots Georgina’s way and George Slinko chipped in two goals and Mitch
Millany added a single to give the Ice the 8-3 victory. Ali
Barbieri ran his record to 2 and 1 in the Ice net.
In
Port Perry on Sunday the Mojacks were looking to catch the Ice for
first place but goaltender Jake Francis had a different outlook as he
backstopped Georgina to a 8-4 win in stopping 41 of 45 shots his way
and making a couple of game savers.
Port
opened a two goal lead midway through the first only to find Georgina
storm back with three unanswered goals. The first on a Brendan Berryman
blast, the second was a Mitch Mallany tip from Anthony Incognito’s
point shot and the third when Brock Levick hit Slinko with a pass who
made no mistake in finding the net.
Levick
and Luke Vanderkooy made it a 5-2 lead four minutes into the middle
stanza with the Mojacks closing the gap to two before the period ended.
Zach Luinenburg potted a pair of third period goals and Adam Chilvers
jammed home his first of the year to round out the Ice scoring.
Ice
Chips: The Ice have two welcomed additions to their blue-line. 5
year D Brandon Gouveia has rejoined the club after a brief stint with
the Jr.”A” Newmarket Hurricanes. Brandon picked up four points in his
first game back and was a plus 5. Anthony Incognito has also signed
with the club after making it deep into the Hurricanes camp. Incognito
played with the Markham Waxers “AAA” midgets last year. In other
weekend action Port defeated Uxbridge in overtime and Little Britain
beat up on Lakefield. The Ice were short handed on Sunday as Scott
Sedore and Jamie Murrell were sitting out suspensions for aggressor’s
in separate altercations and Gouveia with prior commitments. Defenseman
Ryan Anderson only played part of the first due to a leg injury.
The
Ice next home is this Friday night (17th) in Keswick at 7:30 p.m. when
the Lakefield Chiefs come to town. Georgina also travels to Little
Britain on Saturday (18th) to complete their weekend set of games.

The
Bruins handed the Ice their first loss in three games by a 5-3 count.
Georgina opened the scoring five minutes in on the powerplay when Cody

within two when Jamie Murrell redirected Scott Sedore’s backhand shot.
The Ice did hold a 32-27 advantage on shots on goal. In the return
engagement on Saturday the Ice opened the scoring again when Murrell
converted a Brendan Berryman pass, but Uxbridge scored a powerplay
marker in the first and middle periods to go up 2-1 after two. At 15:41
Brock Levick found room between the Bruin’s goalies pads to knot the
game at two. Zach Luinenburg sent the Ice fans home happy after he
stuffed in a rebound with less than five minutes remaining in the
game. Goaltender Michael Gustaw stopped 28 of 30 Bruin shots to

ICE WIN IN SHOOT-OUT posted Sept 29, 2009
In Lakefield on Tuesday night the Ice may have suffered from jet lag as it took them two and a half periods to get on track.
Georgina
found themselves down 3-1 with Robert Evans counting the only Ice goal
after two. The Ice missed a glorious chance in the first when they
couldn't connect on a 5 on 3 powerplay for over four minutes.
Half
way through the final period Brandon Trimble found George Slinko in
front to close the gap to one and then Mitch Mallany converted a Scott
Sedore pass a minute later to even the score at three. The five minute
overtime period solved nothing so it was on to the shootout. Robert
Evans was the only shooter to score and that is all rookie goaltender
Jake Francis needed as he stopped all three Lakefield players. Francis
was exceptional on this night as he stopped 48 of 51 Chief's shots.
Ice Chips: Captain Brendan Berryman made his return to the line-up.

The Ice opened their 2009/10 in fine fashion by dropping the Port Perry Mojacks in a come from behind victory by a 6-5 score.
It
wasn't the best of starts for the home side as Port had a two goal lead
before the game was four minutes old. At the 15:47 mark Georgina closed
the gap on the powerplay when Scott Sedore won the face off to Zach
Luinenberg who spotted Brock Levick in the high slot and beat the
Mojack goalie with a quick snap shot. Seven minutes later Port Perry
extended their lead on a powerplay goal of their own. Luinenberg
brought his team back within one when he scored short side before the
period ended.
Despite
being down 3-2 after one they did manage to outshoot Port Perry 12-11.
A minute into the middle frame Georgina tied the game on another
powerplay goal after Robert Evans finished off a nice three way passing
play from Luke Vanderkooy and George Slinko. The Mojacks looked as
though they were going to put the game away when they scored two goals
in just over a minute to go up 5-3. The Ice tandem of Evans and Slinko
connected on another powerplay marker to narrow the Port lead to 5-4
after two.
Port
held a slight advantage on the shot clock by 15-13. Just under six
minutes into the third, the Ice's Mitch Mallany chipped a pass to Zach
Luinenberg who fought off a Mojack defender and made a nifty deke to
even the game at 5. With eleven minutes remaining Robert Evans was
setting up shop behind the Port Perry net when he fed a pass out front
to Slinko who one timed a shot that found the twine to put the home
side up by one and give them the much needed two points to give this
young team the taste of victory. Rookie goaltender Ali Barberi
picked up the win in the Ice net. After the nerves settled Barberi
stopped 23 of 25 shots in the last two periods. Port out shot Georgina
in the game by a 36-34 count.
Ice
Chips: The team announced that Brendan Berryman will take over the
captaincy for this season with Scott Sedore, Brae Collins and Robert
Evans acting as alternates. The Ice retired #3 in honour of former Ice
player Don Sanderson who was tragically killed in hockey fight last
year in the OHA Senior "A" league. Don was a valuable member of
Georgina's Cougar Cup champions of 2007/08. Don's mother, uncle and
grand parents were part of the touching opening ceremonies. Only time
will tell but the Ice may have found their answer to Kate Smith as
Kevin Wain sang an arrousing rendition of "O Canada" that inspired both
the players and the well attended crowd. Berryman and Mark Asquith were
the only Ice regulars not in the line up as they are recovering from
upper body injuries.
Next home game is this Saturday against the Uxbridge Bruins. Note the game time is 8:30 pm.
ICE WIN SHOOT-OUT THRILLER posted Sept 21, 2009
Last
Friday night the Georgina Ice came up with a thrilling shoot-out
victory in their final pre-season tune-up against the Port Perry
Mojacks.
Port
opened the scoring midway through the first on a cross crease tap in
that goaltender Michael Gustaw had no chance on. Four minutes later
Gustaw managed to keep the score at one when he made a big save on a
Port breakaway thanks to an Ice turnover at the blue line. Port Perry
held a slight lead on the shot clock at 14-12.
The
Mojacks went up by two early in the second after a long lead pass
caught the Ice defence flat footed that resulted in a breakaway that
the Port winger beat Gustaw high glove side. Less than three minutes
later Port went up by three on a shot low stick side. Georgina had a
few glorious chances to close the gap when Scott Sedore fed Brock
Levick who couldn't find the handle on the open net and Zach Luinenberg
missed a deke on a partial breakaway. The Ice did manage to solve the
Mojack goalie in the last minute of period after George Slinko pulled
up just short of the corner to find Robert Evans in the slot who fired
a one timer to make the score 3-1 after two.
The
Ice did manage to fire 16 shots Port's way, but could only muster up
the one goal. Five minutes into the third the Ice fans figured it was
all but over after Port Perry scored a nice back door power play goal
to put the visitors up by three. The Ice's Brandon Stevens fired a shot
glove side midway through the frame to close the gap to two. At the
1:48 Mark Luinenberg found Evans camping out in the slot once again and
Evans beat the Mojack keeper with another one time blast. Forty seven
seconds later the Ice sent the hometown fans into a frenzy when Sedore
fed Evans a pass in front that the Port goalie managed to save, but
wily vet, George Slinko jammed home the rebound to knot to score at
four to send the game into overtime Georgina out shot Port once again
by a 13-10 count.
In
the five minute overtime Port Perry had the best scoring opportunity
but Gustaw made a nice glove save to send the game into a shootout.
After Port's first shooter scored, the Ice's Brock Levick scored on a
nifty deke and when the next Mojack shooter missed, Robert Evans put
the home side up by one. Port's third shooter found the twine and then
George Slinko sealed the deal on a beauty back hand triple deke to give
his team the win and send the Ice into the regular season on a high
note.
Be sure to catch the Ice home opener this Friday September 25th vs the same Port Perry Mojacks at 7:30 pm.

Express forward Brandon Trimble is the latest additon to the team.

signed by the club as the teams underage player. Jeff Evans returns as
Head Coach hoping to improve on last year's fourth place finish and
first round exit from the play-offs. Blaine Martin will be handling the
defence once again.
Coaches
Corner: Evans says his team will be much younger, faster and more
aggressive. There could be some early growing pains but figures they
should challenge for one of the top three spots.
Be sure to catch the Ice home opener this Friday September 25th vs Port Perry Mojacks at 7:30 pm.
ICE PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT posted Sept 14, 2009
Some
of the 2009/10 edition of the Georgina Ice Jr"C" team and some rookie
hopefuls were on hand over the weekend at The Alliston Hornets Jr C
pre-season tournament and came away with a 1-1-1 record. In the Friday
night opener the Ice surrendered 2 first period powerplay goals to fall
2-0 to Port Perry. The trend continued as the Mojacks potted another
powerplay goal at 10:57 of the second before Ice veteran George Slinko
skated out of Port's corner at the seven minute mark to beat the
Mojacks goalie and put Georgina on the board. Early in the third the
Ice converted a powerplay of their own as Scott Sedore redirected a
Jordan Shalla pass to close the gap to one. With less than three
minutes remaining Port was awarded a penalty shot and Ice tender Ali
Barbieri came up huge to keep the score at 3-2. At the 1:48 mark of the
third Luke Vanderkooy knotted the game at three off a Mark Asquith
rebound. The score remained at three to give both teams one point in
the tournament. In game two the Ice were in tough as the faced last
years Ontario finalists, the Alliston Hornet's. The Ice despite giving
up four first period unanswered goals made a game of it when rookie
sniper Brock Levick beat the Hornet goaltender stick side before the
period ended and George Slinko jammed in a powerplay rebound to make
the score 4-2. Midway through the second frame Alliston knotched a
powerplay marker, but the Ice's Bray Collins replied with a powerplay
tally of his own with a shot from the point to make the score 5-3 after
two. Alliston extended their lead by 3 with yet another powerplay goal
that goaltender Mike Gustaw had no chance on. It was too little too
late as Brock Levick scored his second of the game off a Hornet turn
over at the blueline with 48 seconds left in the game. Make the final
6-4. The Ice were out shot by a 26-15 margin. In game three the Ice
faced off against the Schomberg Cougars and came out firing as rookie
Luke Vanderkooy scored his second of the tourney just fifty seconds
into the game finishing off a three way passing play from Slinko and
Robert Evans. A minute later Brock Levick converted a Scott Sedore pass
to put the locals up by two just 1:49 into the period. The second
period saw Georgina go up by four when Scott Sedore tapped in a short
handed tally from Zach Luinenberg and midway through the second Sedore
scored short side on the powerplay from a Mike Best drop pass.
Schomberg tried to make a game of it as they scored two goals in the
final four minutes, the latter on a penalty shot. The Ice held onto a
slight edge in total shots firing 20 at the Cougars. Jake Francis faced
18 shots picking up the win. The Ice are hosting the Port Perry Mojacks
this Friday night in their one and only exhibition game at home at the
Ice Palace. Game time is 7:30 pm.

ICE
POST TIE AND WIN WITH
BRUINS
By John Jamieson
The Georgina Ice are heading down the home
stretch of the 2008/09 season and with only 5 games remaining the
team is playing the role of spoiler for teams fighting it out for
first in the Central Standings.
This past weekend
the Ice took 3 of 4 points from league rival Uxbridge who currently
trail Port Perry by 1 point for top spot. The Ice
with a somewhat depleted line-up fought tooth and nail last Friday
in what proved to be an exciting game. Both
teams took a 4-4 tie into overtime and despite some good scoring
chances at both ends both teams settled for the tie in
Uxbridge.
The
next night saw the season series finale with the Ice and Bruins at
the
Ice
Palace
. The Ice
played a solid game at both ends of the rink for 2 periods and
subsequently took a 2-0 lead into the third. The
Bruins came out hard in the third and it was some costly turnovers
which allowed Uxbridge to tie the game up at 2 goals apiece. Both
teams exchanged goals and skated into the last minute of play tied
3-3. Ice veteran sniper Scott Sedore netted what proved to be the
winner with only 43 seconds remaining on a pass from Nick
Hearn. Hearn then added an empty net marker in the dying seconds as
the Ice skated to a 5-3 victory taking 3 of 4 points from the Bruins
in the weekend series.
The team will be busy this week
with a rare Wednesday evening make-up game with the Port Perry
MoJacks. Please note the game time
is 8:30pm at the
Ice
Palace
. The team
will have 1 day to rest for this Fridays home match-up with the
Little Britain Merchants as the puck drops at 7:30pm at the
Ice
Palace
. The Ice
will open the 2009 playoffs with the Merchants with the schedule
TBA.
Sat. Jan. 24 th Uxbridge 3 @ ICE 5

Colwill, Brendan Berryman and Nick Hearn. Assists

ICE
CAP OFF TOUGH WEEK WITH
WIN
By John Jamieson
The Georgina Ice ushered in the
New Year with a tough
Central Ontario
schedule as the team had 3
games in as many nights on their plate. The team went
into last Friday evenings game saddened by the loss of Don Sanderson
who passed away early Friday morning after a 3 week battle with a
critical head injury sustained on Dec. 12 th. Don was a big part of our team in
last seasons playoff run. On Friday evening a late 2 goal rally by
Little Britain propelled the visiting Merchants to a 5-4 victory in
Sutton. The next night the Ice hosted the Uxbridge Bruins. Before
the game both teams and fans observed a moment of silence in memory
of Don Sanderson. This game was a quick and exciting
game which saw end to end action from the get go. The Ice
plain and simply ran out of time as the Bruins took the contest with
a 4-3 score. Things did not get easier from
there as the team travelled to Port Perry on Sunday night to face a
MoJacks team that have had the Ice number this season. Once
again this game was an end to end battle which saw the Ice down 3-2
going into the 3 rd. Scott Sedore tied
the game up 20 seconds into the 3 rd period putting the momentum shift back with the Ice. The boys
plugged away but could not put the go ahead goal past MoJacks
goaltender Richard Wigmore. This game would require overtime
to settle the affair and Nick Hearn did just that with 1:17
remaining in the extra frame as the Ice salvaged a tough weekend
with a 4-3 victory. The Ice will skate this week in
preparation for this Friday nights home match-up with the Lakefield
Chiefs with the puck dropping at 7:30pm from the
Ice
Palace
. The team
will then travel to Little Britain on Saturday evening for a return
visit with the Merchants.

Ice goals: Nick Hearn (2) Mike Snowie
& Scott Sedore. Assists went to Sedore (2),

ICE Chips: The Ice wish to offer our deepest sympathy
and condolences to the Sanderson Family. The team
has been putting Don’s #3 sweater from last season on the bench in
recent games. The
Ice also wish to thank the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 356 – Sutton

pre-game ceremonies.

The Georgina Ice entered into last week’s action
trailing Lakefield by 2 points for 3rd spot in the Central with
a visit from the Little Britain Merchants on home ice. It was
the Merchants who spoiled the Ice home advantage as 5, second period

their First win against the Ice this season. As the home woes
continue for the boys the Ice were in Port Perry on Sunday for an
evening match-up with the 1 st place
MoJacks. In what proved to be a wild one it was veteran forward
Nick
Hearn who tied the game at 7 goals apiece with 1:53 remaining in the
3 rd period. Overtime
settled nothing as both teams settled for a 7-7 tie.

The scoring punch of Scott
Sedore, Kevin Stewart and Nick Hearn are all back as well as Brock

faces on the blue line this season. Christian Neilsen also has
returned to the line-up down back as well.

future. Michael Gustaw comes to the Ice from the Georgina Blaze AA

last season and was stellar posting 2 shut-outs and allowing only 2 goals
in 3 consecutive starts. Sharing the netminding duties with Michael
will be Jake Sanita. Jake comes from the York-Simcoe Express AAA
Midgets last season. The 6”1”, 185lb goaltender has shown some great

the 2008/09 season.
As well the Ice welcome
forwards Brett Bureau and Luke Anderson for the Express AAA program.
Brett also come from the Express Midget team from last season and Luke

play making ability with some speed at our camp this season.
The team is pleased to

Cody is a local player who served as captain on last years AA Blaze Midget

teams defensive core. James comes from Newmarket where he played for
the Toronto Junior Canadiens AAA previously. Overall the team is
shaping up for what can once again be a great season.

thing rolling and MAKE SOME NOISE! Get your white and blue on and
we’ll see you Friday night!
ICE OPEN PRE-SEASON WITH
BACK TO BACK
WINS
The Georgina Ice opened the
pre-season and main camp schedule on a high note after posting 6-2
victories over Midland in both towns. The main camp schedule is now
underway as the team is shaping up for the upcoming 2008/09 season.
The team will have a busy schedule ahead of them next week as the camp
schedule will resume with a practice as well as a pre-season home and home
tilt with the Port Perry MoJacks. The Ice will host Port Perry this
coming Friday as the puck drops at 7:30pm at the Ice Palace. The
coaching and management staff have been extremely busy as there are some
key positions to be filled as key players have moved on. On the
blueline the Ice had already lost some veteran players to overage and will
now look to fill the void created by Central Ontario Rookie of the Year
Joel Hanley who has signed with the Newmarket Hurricanes Jr. A.
Going along with Joel to Newmarket will be goaltender Jimmy
Sarjeant. Replacing these players will be a tough task however there
are once again young players from Georgina and York Region skating with

ICE OPEN PRE-SEASON WITH
BACK TO BACK
WINS
The Georgina Ice opened the
pre-season and main camp schedule on a high note after posting 6-2
victories over Midland in both towns. The main camp schedule is now
underway as the team is shaping up for the upcoming 2008/09 season.
The team will have a busy schedule ahead
of them next week as the camp schedule will resume with a practice as well
as a pre-season home and home tilt with the Port Perry MoJacks. The
Ice will host Port Perry this coming Friday as the puck drops at 7:30pm at
the Ice Palace.
The coaching and management staff have
been extremely busy as there are some key positions to be filled as key
players have moved on. On the blueline the Ice had already lost some
veteran players to overage and will now look to fill the void created by
Central Ontario Rookie of the Year Joel Hanley who has signed with the
Newmarket Hurricanes Jr. A. Going along with Joel to Newmarket will
be goaltender Jimmy Sarjeant. Replacing these players will be a
tough task however there are once again young players from Georgina and
York Region skating with the club that will hopefully assume these
roles.

ICE FORCE GAME 7
WITH
COME FROM BEHIND OT WIN
The Georgina Ice
staved off elimination Monday night coming from behind to beat the Napanee
Raiders 4-3 in overtime.
Down 3-1 late in the
second period the Ice scored 2 goals less than a minute apart to draw even
and go to the dressing room tied 3-3.
The third period
solved nothing as the two teams traded scoring opportunities but strong
goaltending by both teams kept the game tied and forcing overtime.
With 15:33 remaining
in the third period and a scramble in front of the Raider net, Nick Hearn
popped in the winner.
The Ice will now
travel to Napanee Tuesday night for the 7th and deciding game.
STEWART NETS 4
AS ICE TIE SERIES AT 2
The Georgina Ice got
off to a quick start Thursday night as Kevin Stewart scored 2 quick goals
to jump start the Ice Offence. The Ice creuised to a 6-0 lead before
Napanee scored there first of four goals. By games end Stewart had tallied
2 more markers to lead the Ice to an 8-4 win evening the best of 7 series
at 2 games a piece. Tyler Gouveia added 2 goals and Eric Daoust added one
for the home side.
Game 5 takes place
Saturday night in Napanee, there is still a limited amount of seats
available for the fan bus to the game. Bus reservations can be made for
Saturdays Game by contacting Glenn Ulrich at 905-722-7293 or by emailing theice@rogers.com.
ICE TAKE GAME
3
The Georgina Ice took
a trip up the 401 Tuesday night for game 3 of the OHA Quarter Finals
coming out on top by a 3-1 score. The Ice scored goals in all three
periods limiting the Napanee Raiders to just 1 first period goal.
Game 4 of the series
will take place Thursday night at the Georgina Ice Palace.
ICE DOWN 2-0
TO NAPANEE
After claiming the Central
Ontario Championship last week the Georgina Ice opened the OHA
quarter-final series with the Empire Champion Napanee Raiders in Napanee
this past Thursday evening. At first both teams played each other
conservatively as neither team had played each other before.
The Raiders drew 1st blood
in the opening period giving them the early advantage going into the 2nd
period. Veteran forward Brock Vandergulik answered for the Ice in
the 2nd on the power play to tie the game at 1 goal apiece.
The Raiders responded with
2 goals taking a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period. In the final frame
the Ice generated some quality scoring chances however Raiders goaltender
Zak Vandenburg shut the door. Scott Sedore managed to put one past
Vandenburg late in the 3rd however it was not enough as the Raiders
claimed game 1 with a 3-2 victory over the Ice.
On Saturday evening the
Ice came out hard at the Ice Palace in front of a full capacity
crowd. The boys jammed away at every chance and it was Eric Daoust
who found the mark giving the Ice the early lead. Brock Vandergulik
and Nick Hearn drew the assists on Brock’s goal.
The Raiders tied the game
with less than a minute left in the opening period as both teams went into
the dressing room with the game knotted at 1 goal apiece. Napanee
took the lead with a power play goal early in the 2nd period and the score
stayed that way right into the 3rd period.
The Ice came out flying in
the 3rd period once again generating some good scoring chances. Once
again it was Raiders goaltender Zak Vandenburg who stole the show as the
Ice could not put one past the hot goaltender. The Ice frustration
set in as Napanee added to their lead late in the 3rd. The Raiders
added an empty-netter to claim game 2 with a 4-1 victory.
The Ice have played well
but now have their work cut out for them to get back in the series.
Game 3 of the series will
go Tuesday night with an 8:30pm start time in Napanee. The series
returns to the Ice Palace on Thursday evening with an 8:30pm start time as
well. The boys may be down but their certainly not out...come on out
and make some noise.
Let’s keep the drive alive
THE ICE DEDICATE
CHAMPIONSHIP TO
BIG CANOE AND STEWART
The Ice officially
dedicated the winning of the Cougar Cup for the COJHL Championship to the
memory of Hugh "Buzzy" Big Canoe and Raymond Stewart.
Earlier this year, the
Season was dedicated to Buzzy Big Canoe who passed away last May. Buzzy
was an avid supporter of local sports and along with the Chippewas of
Georgina was involved with the forming of this Team. The Chipewas of
Georgina Island and the Big Canoe family continue to be great supporters
of the Team as well as Community leaders.
Ray Stewart was the father
of Staff Member Mike Stewart and the grandfather and biggest fan of #77
Kevin Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a familiar face at our local games. Mr.
Stewart tragically passed away on his way home from seeing Kevin and THE
ICE play 3 short weeks ago.
May we continue on in
their Memory.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (3/18/08)
- Sophomore forward David McIntyre
(Pefferlaw, Ont.), the hero of Colgate's ECAC Hockey quarterfinal
upset of top-seeded Clarkson, is the Inside College Hockey (INCH) National
Player of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
McIntyre was part of five of
the Raiders' seven goals in their back-to-back victories, including four
goals. He netted the game-winning goal in each contest, including scoring
7:36 into the second overtime of the decisive third game to give Colgate a
berth in the ECAC Hockey Championship in Albany.
On Saturday, with Colgate
facing elimination after losing the first game of the series, McIntyre
scored twice and added an assist. He banged home a loose puck at the edge
of the crease for the game-winner early in the third period. The next
night, he scored a power-play goal that gave Colgate a 2-1 lead before
adding the double-OT winner.
ICE CAPTURE CENTRAL
ONTARIO TITLE
The Georgina Ice played host to Lakefield in game 4 of
the Central Ontario Junior “C” Championship in Sutton on Saturday
night. The arena was packed with loyal fans and families in
anticipation of the Ice winning their 2nd Central Title in the team’s
history.
The Ice came into the game
with a 3-0 series lead which was made possible by Eric Daoust’s game
winning overtime goal in Lakefield on Thursday evening along with Kevin
Stewart’s 5 point night. The wait was over as the Ice came out eager
and hard to start the game. Nick Hearn opened the scoring for the
Ice at the at 5:50 mark of the 1st with Brock Vandergulik and Vince
Migliano drawing the assists. Six minutes later Kevin Stewart who
has had a hot hand in the series once again added to the Ice lead with
Brandon Gouveia and Scott Sedore drawing the assists. The Ice went to
the dressing room with a 2-0 lead.
Nick Hearn opened the 2nd
period scoring with his second goal of the game on a pass from Don
Sanderson making the score 3-0 for the Ice. The Chiefs were not
willing to give up and responded with a power-play goal by Josh Hunt
narrowing the Ice lead to 2 goals. Dylan Tice and Brock Koczka
assisted on Hunt’s goal. With 4:40 remaining in the period Don
Sanderson restored the 3 goal lead as Tyler Gouveia and Chris Colwill drew
the assists. The Ice closed out the 2nd with a 4-1 lead.
The fans were buzzing in
anticipation of the team’s arrival for the 3rd period as all knew the Ice
were just 20 minutes away from claiming the Championship. Despite a
rough 3rd period the boys kept their composure as goaltender Jimmy
Sarjeant kept the door shut despite some scoring chances for the
Chiefs. The Chiefs brought the game back within 2 goals with only 2
minutes remaining as Nick Kidd found the mark on a pass from Jody
Fitzgerald and Jordan Hill. That was as close as the Chiefs were
going to get as the fans counted down the dying seconds to the final
buzzer as the Ice completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory.
All remained in the stands
as OHA Central Chairman Trevor Tinney presented the Cougar Cup to team
captains Andy Lamoureux, Scott Sime, Tyler & Brandon Gouveia.
The fans watched as the team skated with the trophy symbolizing a great
season.
After the game the team
dedicated their trophy to the memories of Buzzy Big Canoe, a long time
supporter of the Georgina Ice and to the Grandfather of Kevin Stewart who
passed away following the Ice game February 29th.
The Ice have now advanced
to the OHA Provincial Quarter Finals and will face the Napanee Raiders of
the Empire League. Napanee won the Empire League Championship over
Amherstview on Saturday as well. The series schedule will be posted
on the Ice website at www.georginaice.com.

ICE TAKE GAME #2:
NOW LEAD 2-0
The Georgina Ice hosted
Lakefield in game #2 of the best-of-seven Central Ontario Finals on
Tuesday evening at the Ice Palace.
In the opening period both
teams started off playing more conservatively not wanting to give up the
early advantage to one another. The Ice drew first blood at the 9:13
mark of the 1st on a goal by Scott Sime with Vince Migliano and Brandon
Gouveia assisting on the effort. Not even 2 minutes later Scott
Sedore put the boys up 2-0 on a pass from captain Andy Lamoureux.
The Ice went into the 2nd
period with a 2-0 lead. The 2nd period saw both teams coming out
hard generating some quality scoring chances at both ends of the
rink. Both Chiefs goaltender Mason Kalus and Ice goaltender Jimmy
Sarjeant made some great saves keeping the score at 2-0. Finally the
Chiefs capitalized on a defensive miscue as Jody Fitzgerald scored for the
Chiefs on a pass from Josh Hunt bring the Chiefs within one. The Ice
responded with 2 quick goals in the last minute of play in the 2nd period
as Kevin Stewart found the mark twice with 13 seconds. Scott Sedore
drew assists on both goals with Andy Lamoureux and Nick Hearn also
tallying helpers.
The 3rd and final frame
saw the Ice successfully killing off a 5 on 3 Lakefield advantage as Jimmy
Sarjeant was once again stellar between the pipes as the Ice claimed game
#2 with a 4-1 victory on home Ice.
With a 2-0 series lead the
Ice will travel to Lakefield on Thursday night for game #3 for a 7:30pm
start.
The Ice will host game #4
on Saturday evening with an 8:30pm start time at Sutton Arena.
ICE OPEN CENTRAL FINALS
WITH O.T. WIN
The Georgina Ice opened
the 2008 Central Ontario Junior “C” Finals on Sunday night with a bus trip
to Lakefield for the much anticipated match-up with the Chiefs. The
boys had a few days to rest after their series win over Little Britain and
were ready to go as this game marked the 1st trip back to the league
finals in 5 seasons. This game truly lived up to its billing right
from the opening face-off as there was a lot of hard hitting end-to-end
action at both sides of the rink.
The Chiefs opened the
scoring at the 9 minute mark of the 1st however Ice forward Nick Hearn
tied the game with 5 minutes remaining in the opening frame. The 2nd
period saw the Ice come out hard with 2 quick goals to take a 3-1
lead. The Chiefs however reclaimed the momentum with 2 goals of
their own as both teams went to their dressing rooms with the game tied at
3.
Lakefield took the lead
just 50 seconds in the 3rd period and continued to apply the pressure on
the Ice however goaltender Jim Sarjeant weathered the storm keeping the
boys within 1. The Ice generated some scoring chances midway through
the 3rd and their hard work paid off as Brandon Gouveia tied the game with
7:24 remaining in the game. The score remained tied at the end of
regulation therefore overtime was needed to settle the affair.
Both teams came out hard
in the extra frame as this game was crucial for both teams. The Ice
came close on a few good chances but the game remained tied 4-4. The
Ice were awarded with a power play after the Chiefs took a roughing
penalty with 7:16 to go in the overtime period with the face-off in the
Lakefield end. The boys capitalized on their opportunity right off
the draw as Rookie of the Year Joel Hanley put a point shot past Chiefs
goaltender Mason Kalus as the Ice claimed game 1 with a 5-4 OT win.
The Ice will host game 2
on Tuesday night with a 7:30pm start time at the Ice Palace. Game 3
will go Thursday evening in Lakefield setting the stage for game 4 which
is scheduled for this Saturday evening with an 8:30pm star time in Sutton.
Sun Mar. 9th – Game #1
ICE 5 @
Lakefield 4 (OT)
Ice goals scored by Nick
Hearn, Don Sanderson, Kevin Stewart, Brandon Gouveia and Joel
Hanley. Assists went to Sanderson, Scott Sedore, Chris Colwill and
Tyler Gouveia. Ice goaltender Jimmy Sarjeant turned away 28 Chiefs
shots in the winning effort between the pipes.
Fogal shuts out
Finlandia
in MCHA Final
Former Georgina Ice
Goaltender Brad Fogal stopped 18 shots earning a 1-0 shutout, as the
Adrian Bulldogs won the Harris Cup in their first year.
During Championship
weekend Fogal was also named to the All-Conference team as well as the
All-Freshman team.
Fogal posted a perfect
14-0 record in conference play with a 1.70 GAA.
Ulrich Selected to OUA
All Rookie Team
The Georgina Ice would
like to congratulate University of Western Ontario's Jessica Ulrich for
her selection to the Ontario University Athletics All Rookie Team. The UWO
freshman goalie posted a 4-6-4 record while finishing sixth in the OUA in
goals against with an average of 2.36. Jessica also finished seventh in
the league with an impressive .916 save percentage.
Former Ice Goalie Brad
Fogal
Leads D-III Team to MCHA Championship
Brad Fogal during his freshman
season at Adrian College. |
ADRIAN — Brad Fogal
takes pride in standing out. Just take a look at his pads.
Fogal, or the Adrian
College men’s hockey team goaltender with the giant black paw print
on his gold leg pads, as many know him, has attracted recognition
this season between the pipes for Adrian.
But those leggings, which his girlfriend
actually designed, shouldn’t be his only attention-getter. |
|
Instead, fans should examine
the numbers this freshman from Sharon, Ontario has posted in his
first season on the record-breaking Adrian team. His stats rank
among the best in the nation, and in one case they are the best.
At 19-2, Fogal leads
Division III goaltenders in winning percentage. His 1.91
goals-against average ranks sixth in the nation, while a .925 save
percentage ranks 11th.
Fogal, who committed to Division I Lake Superior
State before an NCAA Clearinghouse rule change forced him to
Division III, started the year 1-2, but has since grown more
comfortable with college hockey and has won his last 17 starts.
Adrian, meanwhile, has
won 18 straight games dating back to late November, and teammates
say Fogal’s play has been a big reason why.
“Sometimes we’re not clicking,
but he keeps us in it until we can get going,” Adrian captain Adam
Krug said earlier this season.
He has done that often in setting a Midwest
Collegiate Hockey Association record for goaltender wins in a
season. After a 14-0 record in league play, he’s just the second
goaltender in MCHA history to finish the league schedule
undefeated.
“The
coolest thing about Brad is that he works during the summer in a
goalie equipment shop,” Adrian coach Ron Fogarty said, “so he’s
around it even when he’s not playing. He’s a great student of the
game.”
His team needs
that knowledge this weekend to win the MCHA tournament and its grand
prize, the Harris Cup.
Adrian plays Milwaukee School of Engineering in
the semifinals Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Kern Center in Milwaukee,
and then, should it win, faces the winner of Marian College and
Finlandia University in the final Sunday at 4 p.m.
Fogal hopes to return
from this weekend’s trip with good news for Adrian fans and a
bronze, cup-shaped trophy.
After that, he also has good news for Adrian’s
more artistic followers.
“I already have the pad design for next year,”
he said. “It’s a secret. I can’t say any more, but it’s cool.”

The Georgina Ice closed

game winning streak finishing in 2nd place behind the Lakefield
Chiefs. The Ice will play Little Britain in the 1st round of the
2008 playoffs with the series expected to start on Feb. 22nd. This
season the Ice produced a team of returning vets from last years team
along with an injection of younger players on the blue line, up front and
between the pipes which resulted in the team doubling last seasons point
total and establishing themselves as strong contenders in the league and
the province. The boys are enthusiastic about making a potentially
exciting playoff run.

ICE HOLDING ON TIGHT
FOR FIRST
The Georgina Ice are
holding on tight for 1st place in the Central Ontario Junior “C” Hockey
League as the team maintains a 3 point lead for 1st place over Lakefield
at press time. Overall the standings are tightening up as every team
has stepped their play up making the Central League among the most
competitive leagues in the province.
Last week’s action saw the
Ice drop a 6-5 heartbreaker to the Port Perry MoJacks which made Friday
nights game that much more important as the Lakefield Chiefs trailed the
Ice by only 3 points after posting a 3-1 win over Uxbridge.
On Friday night the Ice
looked to step up after Thursday nights effort as the team came out flying
with 4 1st period markers including 2 from forward Scott Sedore. The
Ice and Chiefs exchanged 1 goal apiece in the 2nd and from there Jimmy
Sarjeant shut the door in the 3rd as the Ice skated to a 5-1 over
Lakefield on home ice.
The Ice improved their
home record to 11-1-3 on the season and re-established a 5 point gap for
1st. The gap was once again short lived as Lakefield posted a win in
Little Britain on Saturday night therefore the lead for 1st is at 3
points.
The team will skate this
week in preparation for Friday nights home match-up with the Little
Britain Merchants as the puck drops at 7:30pm at the Ice Palace. The
team will then travel to Port Perry on Sunday night for their last regular
season visit with the MoJacks.

Town of Georgina Mayor Robert Grossi for his recent contribution of
cookies to our young fans last Friday night.
ICE SET FOR MOJACKS
& BRUINS THIS
WEEKEND
The Georgina Ice are getting set for this weekends
back-to-back home match-ups after spending a lot of their time on the road
in recent weeks. On Friday night the Ice will host the Port Perry
MoJacks @ 7:30pm at the Ice Palace. From there things don’t get much
easier as arch-rival Uxbridge Bruins will be in town on Saturday evening
with the puck dropping at 7:30pm at the Ice Palace. The team
currently still holds 1st place by 4 points as a tough 4-3 loss in
Uxbridge last Friday night along with 2 wins posted by Lakefield have
allowed the Chiefs to crawl back within 2 games of the Ice.
Fri. Nov.

Eric Daoust led the way
with 2 goals for the Ice in the losing cause along with a tally by Kevin
Stewart. Assists were credited to Stewart, Scott Sedore (2), Carson

2nd loss of the season.
ICE Chips: The Ice would like to make
honorable mention to the Georgina Blaze Novice and Atom ‘AA’ hockey teams
who were finalists in their respective age groups at the Regional Silver
Stick Tournament held in Georgina last weekend. The Ice are at the
halfway point on the 2007/08 season and would like to thank our fans for
